For our client we are looking for a: Database Administrator (DBA)Your job:The DBA has a broad range of responsibilities, ranging from database development assistance, configuration, maintenance and formatted information extraction.The DBA is responsible for the planning, maintenance and development of the various databases and database systems in use. At the moment these database systems include MS-SQL, MySQL, Ingress and in the near future Oracle.In some cases after office hours work can be carried out from home or from other remote locations. The work can be stressful as the organization depends on effective databases and there can be significant pressure to ensure that they operate smoothly. Travel and absence from home at night may occasionally be required.
Tasks:- establishing the needs of users, meeting users' access requirements and resolving their problems
- planning dataflows and making ‘conceptual design’ for a new or revised database
- testing new systems
- maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act
- writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary ('metadata')
- co-controlling access permissions and privileges
- training users
- ensuring that storage, archiving, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly
- capacity planning
- working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and web developers
- providing technical support for outdated 'legacy' systems
- communicating regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff, to ensure the database integrity and security
- data consistency across the various databases
- maintaining database accessibility in various forms as suitable to the different needs and purposes of the databases
- maintaining the proper security at all levels of the databases; this includes accessibility of records, tables and fields as well as distinctions between the types of access (read, write, modify, etc.)
- ensuring that data is optimally recoverable in case of emergency
- because of the increasing levels of hacking and sensitive nature of data stored, security is an important aspect of the work
Job profile:- up to date knowledge (certifications) of (one of)various database platforms (MS-SQL, MySQL, Oracle)
- advanced knowledge of database design in relation to logical design requirements
- knowledge of report generators
- support knowledge regarding the relation between databases and the general ICT infrastructure
- working knowledge of SharePoint and the underlying MSSQL Database infrastructure
- working knowledge of Axapta/DynamicsAx
- ability to translate business requirements into database design consequences
- ability to design and maintain the databases in such a way that they are optimally prepared for expected future business requirements
- ability to communicate with higher management at a business level regarding the potentials of the system, communication at a non-technical level
- basic knowledge of financial businesses and environments
- good knowledge of the English language both verbally and written
- comfortable in team-work, good organizational skills
- attention to detail
- a willingness to learn about new developments
- possession of a driving license
